Mayor Dane Slater started his career in the City of Troy Michigan Police Department in 1974 where he served for 35 years and retired as Captain. Following his retirement he continued his public service and was elected as a member of Troy City Council in November of 2009.  His positive contributions to our community were recognized and he was easily elected as the Mayor of Troy in 2013.

Mayor Slater graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1973.  He has undergone additional education and training in police work over a period of time in Louisville, KY, Evanston, IL and Mt. Pleasant, MI. He maintains membership in many professional organizations. He is member of several local organizations. Notably he is the Chair of Downtown Development Authority of Troy and Chair of Global Troy committee.
