Lisa Machesky, Executive Director of Oakland Literacy Council
Adult Literacy Matters: 35 Years of Changing Lives

Lisa Machesky is executive director of Oakland Literacy Council in Bloomfield Hills, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating adult illiteracy in Oakland County.

She has over decade of experience leading nonprofits in Oakland County and also has been involved in many nonprofit organizations as a board member and volunteer. She previously served as executive director of The Baldwin Center in Pontiac and executive director of the Birmingham Bloomfield Community Coalition.

Lisa is passionate about growing nonprofit organizations and establishing connections between them and the communities they serve. Currently, she is focused on expanding Oakland Literacy Council’s capacity to meet the demand for literacy throughout the county, where an estimated 105,000 adults are considered functionally illiterate.

She holds an MBA from Oakland University and received her bachelor’s degree from Albion College. She currently serves as board chair of the Oakland Woods community of Presbyterian Villages of Michigan and is a Leadership Oakland alumna. She and her husband have been residents of Birmingham for the last 20 years; they have one child at Seaholm High School and another at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
