Community Engagement

Community service lies at the heart of the Club’s mission. Through dynamic partnerships with local organizations, SMCB brings people together to create lasting impact — from hands-on service projects to meaningful support through SMC Foundation grants. The SCORE initiative keeps that spirit alive all year long, inspiring members to roll up their sleeves each month and make a difference in our community.

Tom Kimble is the Community Engagement Chair and may be reached at (248) 390-1843 or thomasekimble@aol.com.

SCORE

SCORE Southeast Michigan serves small businesses in the region by providing free, confidential business advice through a network of experienced entrepreneurs, corporate managers, and executives who volunteer their expertise.

SMCB members with diverse backgrounds and specialties receive SCORE mentor training before helping small business professionals start, develop, and grow businesses in the region. These mentors have proven to be valuable resources for entrepreneurs.

Rochester Older Person’s Center (OPC)

SMCB started a speaker series for seniors who are members of various senior citizen centers in our communities. We have current relations with the Rochester Older Person’s Center (OPC) and will increase our participation in other communities moving forward.  Our discussions will focus on current topics that are relevant to seniors and presented by SMCB members.

Life Remodeled

Life Remodeled works with communities and organizations to create neighborhood revitalization that lasts. Their unique model repurposes vacant school buildings into one-stop hubs of opportunity where families can thrive. These hubs are filled with the best and brightest nonprofit organizations and facilitate collaboration to create far greater life transformation together than was previously possible alone.

Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County

There are plenty of opportunities for interested SMCB members to come together to support Habitat’s “Hand-up, Not Hand-out” approach to providing housing for those in need.

A couple thousand pounds of food are grown annually that go back to our community either free of charge to folks who come and pick it, or for a small fee through Sprout Fresh Food Store.

Pontiac Meals on Wheels

SMCB is well aware that some of our senior citizens face a host of health and mobility challenges that can make it difficult for them to get the food and other resources they need to maintain their well-being.

Pontiac Meals on Wheels steps in to fill that gap by providing a range of critical services that enable seniors to live independently and with the dignity and purpose that they so much deserve. From warm, nourishing meals and personal care services PMOW offers a comprehensive array of resources that are tailored to the unique needs of each individual they serve in Pontiac and surrounding communities.  The SMCB and the Foundation will collaborate with PMOW to provide initiatives that will specifically help those seniors that are isolated in their homes.
