Program - Dr. Carl Clavenna, Opthamologist, Clavenna Vision Institute
                         Advances in Cataract Surgery

Dr. Clavenna received a B.A. from Albion, followed by a Master degree in human physiology and biophysics at Georgetown University.

 

In 1989 he graduated first in his class from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed an internship in internal medicine and his residency in ophthalmology at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He practices in Birmingham.

 

Dr. Clavenna’s presentation will focus on recent and ongoing advances in modern cataract surgery including special implants and intra-operative cataract surgical procedures.

                               The Vietnam Wall

SMCB member, former U.S. Army Captain, and Vietnam Veteran Jim Suhay will present a history of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial from its controversial beginnings in 1979 to its present status as one of the most beloved and visited memorials in Washington D.C. 

 

His visual presentation will include a look at how veterans were treated poorly after returning from the war, the passionate Vietnam veterans who wanted to honor their brothers and built the Wall, the disagreement over the Wall’s design, and the visitors to the Wall; the mementos they leave and what the Wall means to them.
