Discussion - Phyllis Jane Holmes, Gleaners Community Food Bank/DTE Energy Garden Project
Communities Growing Food to Feed the Hungry

Approximately 33 million people, including 13 million children, cannot afford the food they need.  Gleaners Community Food Bank/DTE Energy Garden Project provides 11 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables to our community's hungry through the combined efforts of Gleaners, DTE Energy, and dedicated volunteers.  The produce is grown in ten gardens located throughout metro Detroit.

Our speaker, Phyllis Jane Holmes, is one of those dedicated volunteer with the Garden Project.  Holmes, a University of Michigan graduate, retired as a Director at Severstal North America in Dearborn.  In addition to the Garden Project, she also volunteers with Gleaners Fresh Food Share program, a community-based food distribution system where fresh food is bought at wholesale prices from local farmers and then delivered to the poor.
