Lawrence Tech: A New Experiment in Education and Economic Growth

Virinder K. Moudgil, PhD, has served as president and CEO of Lawrence Technological University (LTU) since July 1, 2012. He is overseeing a period of significant growth of LTU’s enrollment, fund raising, and community outreach. Campus facility growth and improvements include purchase of an adjacent five acres and 92,000 sq. ft. twin buildings, construction of third and fourth student residence halls, Detroit Center for Design and Technology in midtown Detroit, and the Taubman Complex and Marburger STEM Center opened in September 2016, which is also home to advanced engineering, life sciences, and architecture programs.

Prior to presidency at LTU, Moudgil was Vice President and Chief Academic Officer and Provost at Oakland University (OU) (2001-12). As co-chair of the Steering Committee, he led the development of the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.

As internationally recognized Steroid Hormone Action researcher, Moudgil was also a visiting scientist at the Lab-Hormones, University of Paris-Sud, France; and Consultant to United Nations Development Program (TOKTEN), Bombay, India, 1989. Many research scientists from France, Yugoslavia, China, India and Japan spent time in his research Lab. and co-authored research publications. He has 7 books and nearly 200 research publications to his credit.

President Moudgil serves on many prominent Boards of Directors including:

Michigan Education Trust (MET and MESP 529), Fellow, Engineering Society of Detroit; Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce 2013-2019; Detroit Economic Club; Detroit Zoological Society (Zoo); Resident Member, Detroit Athletic Club.

He is recipient of numerous state, regional and international awards.
