Veteran public relations executive and journalist John G. McCandless is also a retired Navy captain with 32 years of active and reserve service.
His civilian career focused on automotive public relations. He retired as a senior member of Toyota’s U.S. Corporate Communications team in October 2011. In addition, John has been involved in numerous organizations that support the military and those who serve in it.
He is a founding member and vice-president of the Michigan Armed Forces Hospitality Center that is generally known as the Freedom Center. The Center operates a transit lounge at Detroit Metropolitan Airport for service members and their families.

Jim Bayson is the Assistant Treasurer of the SMCB and is the chairman of the ad-hoc Improvement Committee. After 40 years he retired as a CPA and partner in the firm of Plante Moran. He is presently on the board of directors of 8 non-profits.
